Healthy leaders are great builders. This poem by Charles Franklin Benvegar offers a powerful perspective…
I watched them tear a building down,
A gang of folks in a busy town.
With a Ho-Heave-Ho and a lusty yell,
They swung a beam and a side wall fell.
I asked the foreman,
“Are these people skilled?
The kind you would hire
If you wanted to build?”
He laughed and said,
“Oh no, indeed!
Unskilled labor is all I need.
For I can easily wreck in a day or two
What it took a builder years to do.”
I asked myself as I walked away,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with care,
Measuring life by the rule and square,
Shaping my deeds to some well-laid plan
And mostly doing the best I can?
Or am I a wrecker who walks the town,
Content in the labor of tearing down?
“O Lord let my life and my labors be
That which will build for eternity!”
Be a builder of healthy results and relationships!
